Convention Services Team Leader - APPLY HERE

The purpose of this position is lead staff responsible for providing basic hospitality and customer service, monitoring providing crowd control, and performing basic security functions during conventions, tradeshows, and other public events. Employees in this classification perform security functions such as monitoring and controlling restricted-access areas, directing crowds and traffic, closing and locking doors, and general monitoring of activity within the facility; this position will not serve as a security guard.

The following duties are normal for this position.  The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification.  Other duties may be required and assigned.

Leads and oversees the work of assigned crew(s): trains crew members in all essential functions; provides guidance to subordinates as needed; reviews performance; initials discipline as necessary; and addresses complaints and resolves problems in conjunction with Convention Center Management.

Coordinates work related to oversight of customer service, loading dock, parking, safety and security during the setup, breakdown, and show times of assigned events at the Convention Center: plans, schedules and coordinates work assignments; monitors work in progress for proper completion; works closely with Convention Center staff, service providers and vendors in preparation of contracted event; and attempts to resolve facility, event, or participant problems as they arise.

Ensures adherence to established safety procedures; monitors work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals.

Leads and provides routine hospitality and customer service to the organizers and participants of conventions, tradeshows, and public events: give directions and information on events in the facility; provide crowd and traffic control during set-up and breakdown of events; control entry and access to events; monitors and addresses needs on the convention / trade show floor during the events; and educates and enforces building polices to clients and customers.

Monitors and controls activities at the loading docks: direct and control vehicle and pedestrian traffic; assigns the order and space allotted for loading and unloading materials and equipment; monitors loading, unloading, and parking activities; and receives, signs and expedites small freight shipments to the facility.

Leads and oversees the operations of the paid parking lots, to include collection of parking fees, traffic and parking control, inspection of the lot to maintain the order and safety of parking operations; and customer service; performs the duties of the parking lot attendant as needed.

Leads and provides basic security for the facility and events: monitors and controls access to restricted areas of building; directs crowds and traffic; secures facility during non-operating hours by shutting down equipment, closing and locking doors, and turning on and or off lighting; monitors of activity within the facility by direct observation or via security cameras; patrols area to enforce facility rules, prevent disorderly conduct, and deter theft and vandalism; and patrols interior and exterior of facility.

Leads the implementation of safety measures falling under the oversight of the Convention Services team: monitors of activity within the facility; identifies and reports potential safety hazards and resolves them if possible; provides limited first aid and assistance to individuals to patrons or obtains assistance from response personnel as needed; and assists with the evacuation of building during emergencies.
Maintain daily activity log reports.  Prepare incident reports for accidents, personal injury or theft.

May be temporarily assigned to the Convention Center Administration office: answers and expedites incoming phone calls, greets and directs visitors and clients, and performs routine clerical tasks.

Performs duties of subordinates and other related functions as required.

High school diploma or GED; two years of experience in security, hospitality, or concierge / customer services required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.  Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver's license.
