    Taste of the Town History

Since 1956, St. Andrew Catholic School has provided students in Kindergarten through Eighth grades with an education of academic excellence rooted in faith and love. St. Andrew embraces the community through school-wide service projects, instilling in its students the importance and value of living a life of “service beyond self”.

In 1984, a creative group of parents organized the first Taste of the Town as a fundraiser for St. Andrew Catholic School. The event made its debut hosting about 20 restaurants and gained immediate popularity in the Myrtle Beach community. Over the years, locals and visitors look forward to attending this premier culinary event.

Today, Taste of the Town features many of the Grand Strand’s Finest Restaurants, culinary awards, live entertainment, silent auction, and is poised as one of the most highly anticipated food festivals. Taste of the Town’s growing success is made possible by the generous contributions of local businesses through various levels of sponsorship.

Taste of the Town is the primary annual fundraiser for St. Andrew Catholic School. The event’s proceeds benefit the school’s Capital Improvement Fund for purchase of items such as playground equipment, structural renovations, and new technology.

St. Andrew Catholic School gives back to the community by donating a portion of the proceeds to various local organizations including Help 4 Kids and Catholic Charities.

Taste of the Town is a Non-Profit Organization. Donations are tax-deductible.

Are you a local restaurant owner and want to get involved?
With many of our favorite local restaurants participating every year, Taste of the Town is the perfect opportunity to introduce new restaurants on the strand, showcase new dishes, and compete for awards.
Taste of the Town’s popularity is owed so much to the hard working and generous staff from all the participating restaurants. If your restaurant is interested in participating in this year’s event, please fill out the Restaurant Packet. Each image is a link to a printable PDF. Showstopper American Dance Championships
Showstopper American Dance Championships is a dance competition that hosts competitions in over 54 cities in the United States. The company was founded by Debbie Roberts.
Founded in 1978, Showstopper is America‘s first, longest running and most prestigious dance competition. Showstopper set the standards for competitive dance in America with the first and longest aired dance competition television show, broadcasted on national television for 20 years.
As a full production company, today Showstopper hosts over 50 events a year throughout the United States and internationally. Each competition is equipped with the industry‘s best stages, background screens, lighting, and cameras. In 2018 our stages saw over 50,000 dancers from all across the world.
Each year Showstopper hosts 6 dance conventions at top vacation destinations throughout the United States. Dancers learn from the world‘s top dancers and choreographers, including winners of So You Think You Can Dance, Broadway superstars, and celebrity choreographers.
Showstopper produces America‘s #1 Teen Dance Magazine. Showstopper Magazine can be found at every Showstopper event, in Barnes and Nobles locations nationwide. Each magazine features America‘s most talked about dancers and teen celebrities. Check out Showstopper Magazine Online! Looking ahead, we will continue celebrating every transformation of popular dance and seamlessly evolve along the way. We will forever be dedicated to what is unmistakably Showstopper: an unconditional love for movement in music, and an unbridled joy in elevating the performance of dance.
Before 1978, dancers didn’t have a stage to perform on, the opportunity to learn from peers, or a competitive outlet like most sports. Debbie Roberts recognized this missing piece in the dance community and that is how America’s first and longest-running dance competition, Showstopper, was born. Debbie taught dance for over 26 years and owned and operated her own dance studio for 20 years. She is now the owner and National Director of Showstopper, alongside her husband, Dave Roberts. Dancer, teacher, business owner, author, and mother, Debbie has made dance her life’s career.
Debbie got the idea to host the nation’s first dance competition from watching her son, Adam, play competitive sports for years. Seeing the excitement he got for a big game inspired her to create the same for dancers. With the name suggestion from her dancing, 8-year-old daughter Angel, Debbie took her savings and booked four competitions for Showstopper’s first year. She wrote letters and knocked on the doors of local dance studios. Despite many doors slammed in her face, Debbie did not give up. Eventually, she recruited about 400 people to attend her first show. By the fourth show of that year, people were asking her how they could participate in Showstopper’s competitions. In no time, local televisions and newspapers were filled with pictures of children leaping across the Showstopper stage.
Debbie’s impact on the dance community continued. In 1984, Debbie graced the cover of Dance Teacher Magazine. In 1986, she topped Glamour Magazine’s list of Outstanding Young Working Women. In 1992, Debbie published her first of three dance-related books. Her first book, The Super Studio: The Guide to a Successful Dance Studio, earned major credit at many colleges throughout the United States.

    About the NCAA
The National Collegiate Athletic Association is a member-led organization dedicated to providing a pathway to opportunity for college athletes. Learn about our Core Purpose and Values.
    What is the NCAA?
The National Collegiate Athletic Association is a member-led organization dedicated to the well-being and lifelong success of college athletes.

Nearly half a million college athletes
make up the 19,886 teams that send more
than 57,661 participants to compete each
year in the NCAA’s 90 championships
in 24 sports across 3 divisions.

    How We Support College Athletes

    Financial Assistance
NCAA school award nearly $3.5 billion in athletic scholarships every year to more than 180,000 student-athletes, and many of those scholarships are guaranteed regardless of athletic performance or injury.
Many NCAA Division I schools offer cost of attendance so student-athletes can recieve funds to help with additinal college costs not covered by a scholarship.

The NCAA Finances a Student Assistance Fund of more than $87 million to help Division I Athletes with essential needs, from flying home for a family emergency to buying a winter coat.

    Student-Athlete Voice
Student-Athletes lead in every division through advisory committees and the campus, conference and national levels.
Student-athletes in all divisions serve and vote on NCAA Committees.
Leadership programs help student-athletes find their voices and enact change.

    Wellness and Insurance

The NCAA Sport Science Institute promotes health and safety through research and training on concussions, overuse injuries, drug testing, mental health, sexual assault and more.

The NCAA funds an insurance policy covering all college athletes who experience catastrophic injuries while playing or practicing their sport — providing up to $20 million in lifetime insurance benefits.

To support the nutritional needs of student-athletes, Divisions I and II schools can provide unlimited meals. Some schools have nutritionists and other health professionals to work with players.

    Opportunities and Experiences
Each year, the NCAA funds 90 championships in 24 sports, including paying for almost 14 million miles of travel to get athletes to the competitions.
More than 90% of former student-athletes surveyed 10 years after finishing their eligibility reported they were satisfied with their overall college experience.

    Academic Services

NCAA schools help student-athletes succeed in the classroom by providing state- of-the-art technology, tutoring and access to academic advisors.

Resulting from academic reforms, more than 17,500 former college athletes in Division I have returned to campus to complete their degrees since 2004. The NCAA also offers a degree-completion program, and schools can fund additional scholarships to help former athletes graduate.
Student-athletes are graduating at rates higher than the student body, and in Division I, more than 8 in 10 student-athletes are earning bachelor’s degrees, their highest rate ever.

    Personal and Professional Development

The NCAA offers education and training programs, such as the Student-Athlete Leadership Forum and Career in Sports Forum, which are designed to enhance the well-being and personal development of college athletes.

The NCAA After the Game Career Center connects former student-athletes with career-seeking advice and job postings for various industries and levels of experience.
